PRIORITY
It is everyone's priority to work safely and to do everything possible to ensure his/her own safety and that of colleagues
MAIN PURPOSE
To service, maintain, re-assemble and ensure a quality supply of machine tool parts.
MAIN DUTIES: Tooling
1. Service tooling by stripping down and polishing and, where applicable, replacing with new parts.
2. Reset parts to specified heights and dimensions.
3. Re-assemble component parts of tools to operational capability and standards.
4. Operate maintenance schedules for tooling.
5. Monitor condition of tooling; recommend and effect tooling changes in line with tooling performance.
Stock levels
6. Ensure required spare tooling is available to established quantity level.
7. Refurbish all spare tooling in stock.
8. Despatch appropriate parts for re-conditioning outside the plant.
Machine-shop duties
9. Manufacture unit spares for tooling using a full range of engineering machines (lathes, millers, grinders, etc.).
10. Maintain all safe working practices as required by Health & Safety Legislation and Power Press Regulations.
11. Maintain a good standard of housekeeping by regular cleaning of machines and floor and disposing of scrap – 6 ‘S'.
Additional duties
1. When production demands, determine, operate, maintain, repair and improve all production machinery to produce maximum output of the required quality.
2. Comply with all administration procedures associated with tooling maintenance.
3. Assist in trials and installation commissioning of equipment as directed by immediate Manager.
4. Work flexibly in any work area as far as safety and capability allows.
PROFILE
• Technical background in Mechanical engineering and machine tools with 3 years tool-making experience acquired in eg. Automotive industry or in machine shops of manufacturing companies.
• Press tooling or Motor or HGV (Heavy goods vehicle) Mechanics, with experience/apprenticeship gained in smaller garages or in Lorries repair possible. Ex-navy or military mechanics envisaged.
• Team player, with good communication skills, with attention to detail, willingness to work flexibly, with well-developed problem solving skills and the ability to work under pressure.
