Job Purpose

An occupational health nurse (OHN) practices within the workplace and contributed to the health and wellbeing of employees. Occupational health nursing practice is an important part of a public health strategy and is influenced by a range of health and safety legislation.

Job Main Challenges

ยท  Work within a multidisciplinary team
ยท  Conduct assessment at the work environment for the potential health and safety problems
ยท  Assist in health policy development
ยท  Design, develop and deliver new health promotion initiatives
ยท  Conduct health risk assessments
ยท  Deliver health and safety related training programmes
ยท  Assist in contributing to accident follow up
ยท  Monitor employee exposure to hazardous chemicals and undertaking statutory and non-statutory health surveillance
ยท  Develop return to work strategies following serious injury or a period of prolonged ill-health
ยท  Provide advice on disability issues in the workplace
ยท  Provide advice to employers on how they can achieve compliance with health and safety and employment legislation
ยท  Keep an up to date with legal and professional changes associated with public health and occupational health and safety
ยท  Organize first aider training and maintain a master list of company's trained first aiders
ยท  Lead the management of the first aid box by ensuring periodic replenishment of the first aid box
ยท  Provide first aid treatment to workforce when necessary and report the incident to HSE Department

Main Accountabilities
ยท  Assist and offer advice on health within a multidisciplinary team
ยท  Identify potential health and safety problems
ยท  Assist in the introduction and maintenance of policy development
ยท  Design, develop and deliver new health promotion initiatives
ยท  Identify a range of risk and health assessments that can occur to help with improving the health and wellbeing of staff
ยท  Deliver a range of health and safety related training programmes
ยท  Evaluate employee exposure to hazardous chemicals and undertaking statutory and non-statutory health surveillance
ยท  Offer advice on return to work strategies following serious injury or a period of prolonged ill-health
ยท  Advise employers on how they can achieve compliance with health and safety and employment legislation
ยท  Keep up to date with legal and professional changes with public health and occupational health and safety

Profile Requirements
Must have:
ยท  Possess a Bachelor's Degree in Nursing, at a minimum a diploma in Nursing
ยท  Registered Occupational Health Nurse with NIOSH
ยท  At least two years' post-registration nursing practices in hospitals
ยท  Excellent attitude to people
ยท  Proactive, independent and enthusiastic in driving the Health Profile
ยท  Willing to take on contract employment Good to have:

ยท  Any other health competency certificates i.e. AMRO, CHRA etc
