Job description



Overview:

At the direction of the Chief Engineer the Operating Engineer will oversee and take responsibility for the installation, troubleshooting, repair, and maintenance of electrical, mechanical, plumbing equipment, physical structures, machinery, and controls located in the interior and exterior of building, including critical Data Center systems. This position also provides tenant services, inventory control of materials, and technical advice. Position requires that the individual be a self-starter, problem solver and interact well with all levels of employees and with all levels of building occupants. Position involves everything from time constrained mission critical repairs to basic general maintenance tasks.

The standard hours for this position are:

Monday through Friday 8:00 am to 4:30 pm. This team does have an on-call rotation and each engineer is expected to be on call every third week.

EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE:

High school diploma or equivalent required

Trade school, apprentice program completion, or 5 years minimum relevant working experience required

Prior CFC certification preferred

Data center or critical facility experience preferred

CERTIFICATION AND LICENSES:

Section 608 Technician Certification – Universal – EPA - required within 90 days of hire

70E Electrical Safety in the Workplace – NFPA - required within 90 days of hire

Ariel and Scissor Lift Operator - OSHA - required within 90 days of hire

First Aid/CPR/AED certification within 90 days of hire

KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS, AND ABILITIES:

Provide technical support and leadership to the properties.

Ability to walk 5+ miles per shift

Ability to work at heights, work in changing temperatures, and lift move and/or carry heavy (up to 70 pounds) objects

Ability to analyze the operation of the various systems, determine the cause of any problem/ malfunctions and corrective action

Ability to immediately recognize system shortcomings and respond to operational and emergency situations

Excellent communication skills (both written and oral)

Excellent interpersonal skills

Computer proficiency in MS Office
