About the Position

The Electrical Design Engineer will interface with Project Managers, Process Engineers, Plant Engineers and other Facility Engineers during the electrical design and construction portion of Global projects.  The Engineer will validate cost, quality, and schedule vs. plan, manage changes, communicate with others, and resolve technical questions.  The candidate will work in Akron Ohio under the direction of the GME Facilities Engineering Manager.

 

Primary Responsibilities

·  Interface with the primary engineering firm to manage risks and ensure that electrical work is completed safely, to specification, on time, and on-budget.
·  Thoroughly understand the budget estimate and job scope and manage change requests.
·  Read and thoroughly understand all bid packages and drawings.
·  Effectively manage communications between the contractors, Goodyear corporate engineers, and others to coordinate the work and resolve issues.
·  Assure that all electrical work meets GME requirements and standards.
·  Provide electrical design, development, installation and commissioning of electrical equipment (Medium and Low Voltage Substations, distribution equipment, lighting systems,…) within Goodyear’s facilities.
·  Conduct electrical review meetings with the primary engineering firm and issue notes.
·  Participate in project scope development (internal & external), project facilitation/coordination through planning, installation and commissioning phases.
·  Assist with other aspects of the project including scheduling, budget management & cost control, presentations, etc.

 

Required Education and Experience

·  Bachelor’s degree in science/Technology/Engineering/Math.  Preference in Electrical Engineering
·  4-6 years of working experience
·  Professional Engineering (PE) license is desired
·  Technical familiarity with codes (i.e. NEC, NFPA, Life Safety,…), regulations and safety compliance including CE desirable.
·  Experience with design, specification, procurement, installation and commissioning of Medium and Low Voltage Substations and electrical distribution equipment; preparing of short circuit and relay co-ordination studies; voltage drop calculations; arc flash calculations.
·  Knowledge of modern lighting systems is preferred.
·  Familiarity with Gantt chart scheduling and software, as well as identification and mitigation of schedule risks
·  Budgeting and capital forecasting experience
·  Experienced user of AutoCAD two-dimensional drafting software
·  Experience with 3D design tools
·  Must be able to demonstrate effective teamwork, maintain a professional demeanor, and foster positive relationships inside and outside the team
