As part of the RISE Open Fan Systems team, the Open Fan Systems Engineer interacts across engineering disciplines and leads the overall integration of the technology maturation (TRL) plan for a specific engine module(s) along with new advanced technology area(s). This role partners heavily with the global Open Fan Systems organization, Systems Module Integrators, Module Leaders and the design teams to ensure program technical readiness is achieved safely, with high quality, on schedule and within budget. This role may also include the leadership or support of system level rigs. A high level of operational judgment is required to achieve the outcomes required.

Job Description

Roles and Responsibilities

  • Influence the development of strategy for the area of responsibility, including control of resources and influences policy formulation.
  • Drive rigor in technology maturation and Technical Readiness Level (TRL) review process. May support/lead pre TRL 6 system rigs and tests
  • Drive program schedule and partners with Product Operations when appropriate to address hardware needs. Critically assesses engineering efforts to ensure completeness and accuracy. Verify technical requirements are flowed out effectively.
  • Drives rigor and safety into test planning and test design reviews. Reconciles competing technical approaches considering all CTQs.
  • Interprets simple internal and external business challenges and recommends best practices to improve products, processes or services. Stays informed of industry trends that may inform work.
  • Uses high level of judgment to make decisions and handle complex tasks or problems in areas of operational, product management, manufacturing, technology or engineering. Has ability to assess quality of information given and ask pertinent questions to stakeholders. Able to offer new solutions to problems outside of set parameters and provides recommendations.
  • May lead functional teams or projects with minimal resource requirements, risk, and/or complexity. Communicates difficult concepts, influences the opinions of teammates on specific topics and may guide others to consider a different point of view.

Required Qualifications

  • This role requires significant experience in the Engineering/Technology & Systems Engineering. Knowledge level is comparable to a Master's degree from an accredited university or college (or a high school diploma with relevant experience).
  • A high level of operational judgment is required to achieve the outcomes required.
  • Previous experience with turbofan design and/or program management.
