Role Summary/Purpose
The proposed thesis “Optimization of the meridional channel of a state-of-the-art Low Speed Turbine by mean of innovative aerodynamic technologies” is aimed at the analysis of the beneficial impact of innovative technologies on LPT configurations.
Essential Responsibilities
The thesis will be carried out under the supervision of both an academic tutor (Politecnico of Turin) and also an Avio Aero internal tutor. The activity is composed of two parts: the first will dedicated to the learning of the fundamental aero design tools under the supervision of the Avio Aero internal tutor, while the second will be dedicated to the thesis research.
The whole project will be over by the second quarter of 2017.
This activity will use computational tools (Meanline and CFD) to investigate the impact of the application of innovative aerodynamic technologies on a state-of-the-art Low Pressure Turbine for commercial market segment in terms of efficiency, module weight and cost. This know-how will be useful to help engineers understanding which technologies to develop in a technology plan in order to increase TRL for future product applications.
