About the job

The job relates to the development of new products for environmental applications. The Lhoist products are applied in industry to clean the exhaust from electricity generation, waste to energy and industrial applications.

The activities range from hands-on operation and data analysis from the pilot test facility involving various mechanical processes (filter cycling, mixers, dosing systems,...), process and analytical systems (FTIR, safety devices,...) to scientific tools for product characterization (powder flow, wet chemistry, XRF,...). Problem solving and critical analysis through application of fundamental chemical engineering principles such as gas-solid reaction mechanisms, material and energy balances, thermodynamics and phase equilibrium, development of reaction models and so forth. Involvement in industrial trials by interpretation of process data, sample analysis followed by modeling of the process with kinetic and engineering models. A high degree of autonomy and collaboration is anticipated.

Main Responsibilities:

- Support the R&D development of products at laboratory, pilot and industrial scales
- Operation of pilot/laboratory scale circulating dry scrubbing installation for removal of SO2 and HCl from flue gases
- Support for industrial trials with our new products at Lhoist customer sites
- Support and execute the R&D development (tool and trial design, experiments, thermodynamic calculations)
- Market observations and assessment to report dynamics of flue gas treatment market especially focussed on flue gas treatment equipment builders

Profile:
- MSc or PhD Environmental, Chemical, Materials Engineering
- Very good communication skills
- Results oriented with a good sense of Team spirit
- Very good organization and sense of priority
- Analytical and Presentation skills
- Affinity with process modelling
- Flexible and reactive
- Fluent in English (oral and written)
- Advanced MS-Excel and MS-Powerpoint skills is a differential

Duration: 1 year with possible renewal for 6 or 12 months

Location:
The internship will take place in the R&D center of the Lhoist group, which is situated in Nivelles 30 km south of Brussels (Belgium). The work language is English with direct report to the global director flue gas treatment applications
