VMWare DevOps Engineer

Position Description
The R&D IT department provides IT Services enabling R&D engineers to do their engineering work. The design environment is an integrated solution and service of Design Infrastructure, EDA application landscape, Design Data Management and Product Creation Applications. The Global R&D IT services are delivered from a small number of locations, containing Data Centers (full set of services) and Satellites Centers (limited set of services). The objective of R&D IT is to ensure Business Success and Market Leadership by providing Best-in-Class R&D IT Services and R&D IT Solutions.
The team that we want to strengthen is the infrastructure Squad. This team is responsible for developing and maintaining global R&D infrastructure, mainly based on the services: NAS Netapp, VMWare & Linux RH. Our team delivers a stable platform (building blocks) on top of which R&D IT services will be layered. Adopt an "Infrastructure as Code“ mentality that prepares for end-to-end automation of the services we own.
R&D IT infra team provides tools and services for use by application teams across multiple IT teams worldwide. The goal is to deploy and maintain a mature infrastructure service, ensuring performance, availability, security, and reliability at enterprise scale.
The position offers the opportunity to drive DevOps efficiency at the company level by designing and deploying Infrastructure as a new, centrally managed Linux service in locations worldwide.

Your future duties and responsibilities
- Partner with IT and business unit DevOps teams to design and build a (centrally managed) VMWare architecture for applications within the company
- Work in an Agile team to implement and deploy the VMWare service on private cloud and/or public cloud platforms, including installation, configuration, monitoring and alerts, automation of routine tasks, disaster recovery, etc.
- Develop procedures and guidelines for operation of the service, including runbooks and training for junior members of the team that will help run the service
- Engage with application development teams and DevOps teams to an IT-supported VMWare solution
- Advise on VMWare best practices; provide support to development teams with respect to VMWare; the experience level of such teams could range from very basic to very sophisticated
- Drive resolution of issues that arise related to the VMWare service, ensuring effective communication with affected teams and users

Required qualifications to be successful in this role
- 5+ years of experience in a DevOps or build engineering role, including at least 5 years of experience with VMWare in an administrative role for a medium to large organization
- Academic and/or Bachelor degree in the area of computer science, computer engineering, or business informatics; or significant similar professional experience
- Proficiency and proven experience in the following technologies:
* VMWare & vCenter
* Netapp Storage and Linux RH are preferable
- Expert-level knowledge of Continuous Integration and Delivery concepts and best practices
- Ability to lead and train junior team members
- Outstanding analytical skills
- Fluent spoken and written English
- Willingness to work in an Agile team but also be self-directed with high engagement
- Excellent social skills and ability to work effectively with global stakeholders and remote colleagues via Skype and other virtual collaboration technologies.
