Description of the job:
A VIE mission as Telecom System Engineer-Ground Segment in Space Engineering Rome (M/F) has arisen within Airbus Defence & Space
- Space Engineering in Rome (Italy) within the Products & Solutions (Communication Equipment) team.
Your mission will be to contribute to design and development of on-board and ground communication equipment for satellite services, with particular focus on Machine-to-Machine (M2M) applications, inter-satellite link applications and engineering software for flexible payloads.
This VIE will start in August 2018 at the earliest (date subject to some flexibility) and will be for a 12 months duration, possibly renewable for another 1 year.
Your main tasks and responsibilities will include:
¤ Providing support in the design of ad-hoc air-interfaces able to efficiently provide end-to-end communications in satellite Machine 2Machine / Internet Of Things and inter-satellite link application scenarios.
¤ Providing support in the design of suitable communication equipment at both base station and user terminal side.
¤ Providing support for the development and maintenance of the SW tools able to simulate end-to-end telecommunication systems and derive the system performances at both physical and link layer levels.
¤ Simulating the modem specific signal processing algorithms and contribute to the modem optimization aiming at best trade-off between complexity/costs and performances.
¤ Supporting the HW implementation of the specified signal processing algorithms as well as test-benches development, system integration and test phase execution.
¤ Contributing to the production of the relevant technical documentation in the frame of the various active projects.
¤ Supporting the process of knowledge management based on the current available documentation and software Tools
You have the following skills and experience:
¤ Strong academic background in Communication Systems and Signal Processing.
¤ Knowledge of Satellite Communication System is also appreciated with understanding of SatCom ground segment architectures for broadcasting, broadband, trunking, backhauling and mobile applications.
¤ Expertise in some of the areas below would be appreciated:
- Communication protocols
- Quality of service aspects
- Upper layer techniques in IP and networking
- Air interface techniques
- SW Defined Radio (SDR)
¤ Good knowledge of Matlab/Simulink for communication system modelling.
¤ Good knowledge of general purpose object-oriented programming languages (e.g. C++).
¤ Negotiation level of English is essential for the position
¤ Italian would be a plus
¤ Strong analytical skills and ability to communicate effectively.
