We are currently recruiting for a part-time Youth Justice Decision Maker to work for Thames Valley Police at their Loddon Valley Police Station in Lower Earley.

You will be working 30 hours a week Monday- Tuesday- Friday- 09:00- 15:00,Wednesday- 09:00- 17:00,Friday- 09:00- 13:30.

This is a temporary role until October 2024.

The overall purpose of the role is to: Make consistent disposal decisions for young offenders in line with relevant legislation, fulfilling the statutory requirement for Police

We are looking for someone who has

·  Proven ability to communicate effectively (both written and verbally) with internal and external stakeholders at all levels both verbally and in writing and to contribute effectively to multi-agency meetings.

·  ICT literate including use of Word Excel and PowerPoint, and willingness to learn new systems as required.

·  Proven ability to work effectively as a team member within a shared service and multiagency environment, and under minimum supervision.

·  Proven ability to work on own initiative, prioritising and organising own workload, problem solving as appropriate and meeting targets with minimal direct supervision with a proven record of delivering results.

·  Proven negotiation and influencing skills, resilience and ability to adapt communication style appropriately

·  Proven commitment to continual professional development. Willingness to learn relevant Youth Justice guidance and procedures

You will be carrying out the following duties -

·  Evidentially review all files where consideration is being given to diverting a young person from prosecution in accordance with the Full Code Test as set out in the Code for Crown Prosecutors.

·  Evaluate the factors contributing to offending by a young person on a case by case basis to ensure a proportionate and appropriate outcome. Recorded decision rationales appropriately and consistently to ensure they stand up to potential scrutiny. Provide the decision to the YOS PC to ensure the appropriate delivery is carried out.

·  Maintain contact with victims in accordance with the Victims Code of Practice, identifying those who are most vulnerable, referring to specialist agencies when appropriate to ensure the correct level of support is provided. Seek the victim's views regarding the impact of the offence to aid a disposal decision.

·  Consult with the Youth Offending Service (YOS) and/or other agencies when considering appropriate disposal decisions in line with relevant guidance. Identify or confirm previous engagement with services for young people in relation to anti-social behaviours, education, health, substances, lifestyle, associates and other risk factors to offending behaviour. Identify vulnerabilities and safeguarding concerns for young people (i.e. Child Sexual Exploitation) and refer as appropriate to internal departments and partner agencies.

·  Provide specialist advice and/or guidance to a range of force wide stakeholders (internal and external) to ensure a consistent approach to all Youth Justice Matters.

·  Keep abreast of changes to legislation and guidance pertaining to young people offending, victims of crime and Thames Valley Police policies and procedures to ensure continual professional development.

·  Maintain the integrity and confidentiality of all files and ensure compliance with information sharing protocols at all times. Ensure that all information is managed according to data protection principles and the Government Protective Marking Scheme
