Adecco are proud to be recruiting for an experienced Digital Forensics Investigator on behalf of Cheshire Constabulary.

This a contract post (9 -12 months) based from Winsford. Salary is £29064 with room for negotiation and option to work via Umbrella Company.

Purpose of role: To conduct intelligence lead investigations on computer and storage media exhibits, and provide evidence for case officers in a manner acceptable to the courts. To assist with any Hi-Tech or elements to criminal investigations. Support Digital Forensics Technicians and Forensics examiners as a subject matter expert and coach their development within the team in support of the head of Digital Forensics.

Experience:

To be able to demonstrate significant use of EnCase Software.

Significant experience of conducting computer based investigations to a standard that is sufficient to prove a prosecution case in a court of law, and be able to draw upon their previous court case(s), or demonstrate investigative case work.

Scope of Role:

Use software and investigative techniques and with minimum supervision, conduct investigations and interpret data in relation to network and computer based criminal activity, specialising in computer investigation, and provide evidence for offences that arise from use of computer equipment, CCTV, mobile phones and internet.

Provide specialist technical support to the Examiner and Technician roles in the digital forensics Unit as an expert and coach their technical development within the team in support of the Head of Digital Forensics.

Consult with and advise officers and staff on best practice for investigation techniques and findings and also with staff of partner agencies, including barristers and the courts in order to ensure presentation of evidence is in compliance with policy and procedure within the police and criminal justice system and acceptable to the courts.

Identify priority offenders through research using internet tools, and focus on bringing them to justice by the identification and pursuance of procedural lines of enquiry, including computer case investigation and work submission.

Seize and exhibit material obtained during investigation, and compile and submit files of evidence in criminal proceedings.

Research and develop new areas of business and trends that support computer based investigations, including software installation and testing, software code writing and development in compliance with ISO 17025 17020 & 9001 requirements, and in keeping with ACPO guidelines for investigation of electronic evidence.

Provide departmental specialist hardware, software, and server maintenance including system auditing, backups and archiving of cases in compliance with MOPI guidelines.

Provide expert evidence by explaining the data and points proven from a computer based investigation, including meaning, any offences, and opinion of how offences have been committed and provenance of data. Ensuring that through effective communication with legal representative and defence experts offenders are brought effectively to justice.

Interview witnesses and take witness statements for use in prosecution cases.

Interview suspects in custody in support of the case officer on investigations involving digital technology.

Make accurate timely submissions of intelligence via Force intelligence systems.

Skills and Knowledge:

Possess an expert knowledge of computers and operating systems with an in depth knowledge of peripheral devices such as CD's DVD's USB devices and their digital architecture, also CCTV systems, Mobile Phones, and the Internet.

Proven decision-making and communication skills, and be able to effectively brief senior staff on matters relating to digital evidence using non-technical terminology.

Able to problem solve different and varied issues thinking within multiple substantially different procedures often in areas without previous points of reference.

Possess an in-depth understanding of the criminal justice system and legal evidential issues in relation to crime investigation, in particular laws of evidence admissibility and disclosure.

Possess a thorough applied knowledge of investigative techniques to a PIP2 (Professionalising the Investigation Process - level 2) standard or equivalent. This is the ability to conduct substantive investigation into more serious/complex offences and the preparation of detailed reports.

Possess a good understanding of The Computer Misuse act, Sexual Offences Act and Regulation of Investigatory Powers Act (RIPA) legislation.

Working knowledge of scripting and computer programming.
