In Ireland, Abbott has five business units, represented across eight sites. The Abbott division based in Donegal Town manufactures FreeStyle blood glucose test strips for use in diabetes management. Among Abbott Diabetes Care leading brands are the FreeStyle Precision, FreeStyle Lite and FreeStyle Libre system.

At Abbott Diabetes Care in Donegal we are going through an expansion as we introduce new technology and equipment to manufacture the Libre Freestyle Sensor which is ground-breaking in the management and care of Diabetes. As part of the expansion we have a requirement for an experienced and multi-skilled Equipment Technician.

Equipment Technician

In this role you will ensure equipment availability and reliability is maximized by application of good maintenance and root cause analysis.

Provide a timely response to equipment faults with workable solutions and effectively communicate problems and solutions across all levels of the business.

The person will be resourceful and will identify and implement value improvement opportunities and will be a key technical resource in a high volume, highly regulated, healthcare operation.

Responsibilities Include

• Equipment Engineering hands-on technical support on a rotating 24/7 shift pattern.
• First line response for all equipment issue, working to the priorities agreed with the Shift Lead to minimise downtime on production equipment
• Being proactive in finding permanent solutions to equipment faults.
• Coordinate and train others to eliminate single source knowledge/expertise
• Generate and communicate plans for Equipment Downtime and provide end of shift handovers
• Complete reports including fault pareto and action registers.
• Identify critical equipment spares and consumables
• Expand the knowledge base of others within the Operations Team by identifying training needs and both directly and indirectly provide this training
• Leading and developing a team of Process Operators ensuring our manufacturing output and performance targets are achieved.
• You will ensure conformance with all relevant policies and Abbott procedures, supplying work instructions and operations procedures to ensure we as a site maintain conformance.
• You will be involved and accountable for Health and Safety in your area, ensuring we as site conduct business in a manner designed to be protective of human health, safety, and the environment.

Education Requirements

Time served and/or HNC/HND/Degree or equivalent in a hands-on technical discipline/similar role.

Experience

• Minimum 5 years' experience in a high-volume manufacturing environment preferred.
• Practical knowledge in some or all of the following areas; PLCs, Electro-Pneumatics, General Automation, Pneumatics, Electrical Systems, Mechanical Systems, Vision Systems, Laser Systems, Safety Systems, Data Communication systems.
• Capable of systematic root cause analysis and fault finding within complex equipment.
• You will be able to work on your own initiative and as a part of a team and have the ability to remain calm and composed under pressure.
• Experience of working in a validated environment and working knowledge of GMP and GDP and People Management experience is desirable but not essential.
