Master thesis – Material Supply for Production Logistics

The world around us is changing. We see challenges with new consumer demand patterns through e-commerce and trade, rapid development with disruptive technologies, development in areas of environmental care and sustainability. All of these trends require us in Volvo Group to be a contributor in society and play our part in providing efficient, environmental friendly and sustainable solutions when it comes to mobility of people and goods – where Volvo Group is driving prosperity through transport solutions.

Material Supply [part of Production Logistics, Volvo Group Trucks Operations] drives development of the supply material processes. We believe in order to be successful with driving change we need to create a better understanding about levels of interaction with our material suppliers. With innovation and new technologies the relationship and means of communication will develop and we wish to secure a connected, engaged and committed supply chain all the way from suppliers via logistics service providers to our reception of goods. We strive to be the preferred customer from a supply chain perspective and are looking for two students to help us define opportunities for improvement.

As a Master thesis worker, you will be part of a diverse and dynamic team working within Production Logistics, in close cooperation with Purchasing and with several other functions and stakeholders.

Thesis scope and expected outcome
·  Map the interactions in inbound supply chain between Material Suppliers and Volvo departments and systems
·  Collect feedback on ways of working, processes and tools. One way to do this is via Supplier interviews and surveys
·  Identify opportunities to strengthen connection, engagement and commitment resulting in a supply chain that can provide more efficient, environmental friendly and sustainable solutions
·  Formulate suggestions for improvement and implementation What we are looking for
For this thesis we are looking for two curious persons with networking skills. You have the ability to address a wide range of questions and challenges, and able to draw conclusion and present opportunities and recommendations to drive strategic change. You are a person that enjoys working in a dynamic environment, having strong social & inter-cultural skills working with Volvo employees both locally and globally.

The successful candidates are strong in communication, both verbally and through creation of visual communication material. Further they have a holistic mindset, know how to facilitate a discussion, enjoys teamwork and are collaborative by nature.

Student profile and application:
