Position Title: Project Engineer

Location: East Kilbride

Reporting To: Manager of Projects

VWS Westgarth Ltd is part of Veolia Oil & Gas; itself a grouping of three business collectively reported through the parent, Veolia Water Technologies (VWT). VWT is in turn part of Veolia Environment SA a French multi-national business. VWS Westgarth Ltd, whose main office is in East Kilbride, Scotland, is a specialist in water treatment systems for the offshore Oil & Gas sector. We are the world leader in Sulphate Removal Process, which is a sea water treatment system for the offshore industry and we are also specialists in treatment systems for oilfield produced waters. Our main offshore markets are currently Angola and Brazil where we also undertake the management responsibility for offices in Luanda and Rio de Janeiro. VWS Westgarth employs more than 160 staff and within our own offices and we work closely with a number of other global Veolia business units on a regular basis.

The Role

The Project Engineer is expected to demonstrate leadership in Veolia behaviour competences and be flexible to ensure delivery outcomes.

The role requires a highly driven, self-motivated and self-confident individual with a positive ‘can do' attitude, capable of influencing and coordinating the action of peers and influencing discussions with the supply chain. The project engineer should demonstrate commercial awareness, be well organised and be comfortable with complex projects enduring a rapidly changing environment and conflicting priorities.

Veolia's projects vary in size and complexity but contract values typically range between £15m and £50m. The projects comprise of multi-discipline Engineering, Procurement and Construction water treatment modules between 200T and 1500T in weight. They used by our customers offshore to improve the quality of injection water into the oil wells.

Leadership and Stakeholder Management Duties and Requirements

· Ensure that Veolia values are adopted, adhered to and communicated such that the integrity of the company is upheld to the highest level
· Support all activities in providing leadership, motivation and inspiration to the team
· Support the team to create a positive culture throughout all departments
· Demonstrate confidence to coordinate scopes of work within the project
· Support the strong and cohesive project team mentality
· Build and maintain strong relationships with internal and external stakeholders such as client, fabricators and suppliers to enable smooth delivery of a project
· Strong negotiation and influencing skills to deliver effective relationship building at all levels
· Strong presentational and verbal communication skills

Main Duties

· Support the Project Manager to ensure that the project works are executed safely and efficiently, with quality, programme and cost objectives achieved to the mutual satisfaction of the Customer and Veolia
· Assist in the overall management of the project as directed by the project manager, including;
· Preparation of project execution strategy
· Preparation of external and internal progress reports
· Attendance at external and internal progress review meetings
· Perform Risk and Opportunity Management
· Utilise and champion Veolia Change Control system
· Preparation and costing of internal /client changes via Change Control
· Visit customers, suppliers, subcontractors and site as necessary
· Communicate with construction site team on a regular basis
· Chair and minute internal progress review meetings
· Chair and minute progress review meetings with suppliers or subcontractors as appropriate.
· Report regularly on progress issues, potential problems and potential solutions to any such problems.
· Create project document list in line with agreed Client Documentation Requirements/and or Procedure
· Create Supplier Document Distribution Matrix which indicates minimal circulation requirements for internal squad check of supplier drawings and documents.
· Ensure that the project team operates to VWS procedures and any other specific requirements of the contract
· Liaise with nominated classification society to ensure project design/equipment meets requirements of their rules and regulations
· Establish set up of project administration systems including the filing system
· Prepare a project close-out report and archive the project records

· · Manage specific areas of the project to the requirements of the contract, quality, programme and cost constraints as allocated by the Project Manager, such as:

· Overall management of equipment and materials design & procurement deliverables

· Management and administration of a high-risk/high-value equipment or fabrication package order

· Management of installation sub-contract

· Ensure all appropriate Health & Safety procedures are applied at all project locations
· Deputise for the Project Manager in their absence
· Any other duties required by the line manager commensurate with the role.

Business Improvement & Operational Excellence Duties

· Combine analytical thinking and excellent problem-solving skills with ability to explain complex issues to different levels in the company
· Drive, manage and achieve the business operational objectives and ensure that these are aligned to the overall business strategy
· Capture lessons learned, identify & manage risk and exploit opportunities
· Use up to date project methodology and process to implement and improve current project management procedures across the company
· Provide commitment to innovation by proposing, facilitating and delivering innovation projects

Organisational Relationships

Through a matrix organisation, Head Office and Site personnel are assigned to a project team.

· Degree qualified in a relevant Engineering discipline or Quantity Surveying

· Chartered in relevant field e.g. IMechE, IEE, IChemE, IStruE, PMI, RCIS

BACKGROUND/

EXPERIENCE

· Previous project management/engineering experience in the delivery of equipment and/or process plant modules for the Oil and Gas industry.

· Experience of dealing with overseas suppliers, fabricators and customers

SKILLS

· General IT familiarity and competence in use of MS Office

· Ability to maintain focus and report on safety, quality, cost and schedule performance

· Focused on Change Control, Risk and Opportunity

· Understanding of planning principles

· Competence in Google Applications

· Excellent communicator

· Experience using Primavera P6 or MSP
