The function of this Planner/Buyer (Inventory) position is to support Surface purchasing activities.
The key elements of this position will include:
• Knowledge in planning and understanding of MRP (SAP) demands
• Direct responsible for purchase of direct parts / raw materials
• Understanding of procedures / processes, specification and Incoterms
• Identifies and realizes cost savings opportunities
• Manage price variance versus budget, standard and last purchase
• Develops supplier relationships and track performance
• Collaborate with Global Sourcing & Procurement (GSP) Category Managers
• Support operational effectiveness

Duties & Responsibilities:
• Directs execution of purchasing activities
• Reviews and improves purchasing processes
• Manages supplier relationships
• Performs RFQ (Request for Quote) evaluation
• Ensure adherence to principles, policies and standards and to improve safety, quality and process reliability in a cost-effective manner. Facilitates communications, problem resolution and provides appropriate feedback, both positive and corrective within the team
• Identifies and realizes cost savings opportunities to achieve yearly cost reduction targets
• Work with purchasing team to meet positive PPV (purchasing price variance).
• Develop supplier delivery performance and manage suppliers' capacity constraints.
• Coordinate with global sourcing management team
• Manage supplier key performance index (KPI)

Basic Minimum Qualifications:
• Have worked in a manufacturing environment
• 3 – 5 years in purchasing/materials management experience with a minimum of 3 years in purchasing
• Degree or relevant Diploma in Mechanical Engineering / Manufacturing
• Microsoft PC skills is required
• Versatile in handing data
• Experience in using SAP will be an added advantage
• Must demonstrate strong negotiation, planning and strong interpersonal skills in order to interact with co-workers and suppliers in a team-oriented environment.
• Good written and verbal communications.
• Understand MRP
• Proactive and willing to learn
• Willing to take challenges to change role within Material Management when needed.
• Willing to perform overtime as and when needed
