Job description

Indirect time-of-flight (iToF) sensors have been considered intensively for 3D depth map applications. They have also been adopted recently by industry for mobile applications, for high resolution, low power consumption purpose and intermediate level of image processing. To reach mm depth accuracy, the pixel must be able to demodulate the photogenerated carriers at few hundreds of MHz.

As part of the development of future 3D image sensors technologies, the thesis studies will aim at investigating several pixel architectures (Fast Photodiode, photogate, Current-assisted Photodiode, Innovative architecture) and analysing their performance of each of them through Optical and TCAD simulations.

The best solutions found and optimized by simulations will be implemented on Silicon in order to experimentally validate the results and improve current iTOF pixel performance.

Based on this proof of concept, your mission will be to define adequate architecture for next technology nodes and/or RGBZ pixels.
