The Supplier Quality Engineer designs, develops, & implements strategies to improve supplier performance and ensure the quality of materials. Understand processes and controls, verify controls are executed as planned, and identify & lead continuous improvement projects.

Missions:

a) Perform evaluation of new suppliers in order to assess their ability to be compliant with Zodiac Aerospace and BU quality and regulatory requirements in collaboration with other departments involved (e.g. procurement, engineering).

b) Perform periodic evaluation of current suppliers in order to verify continued compliance with Zodiac Aerospace and BU quality and regulatory requirements and follow up on corrective actions resulting from audit findings

c) Investigate and manage supplier non-conforming issues and related roots cause analysis to implement sustainable corrective actions

d) Ensure compliance of supplier base with the applicable BU, Zodiac Aerospace, regulatory requirements

Authority:

SQE have authority upon delegation of BU Quality Manager to:

a) Deny approval of new supplier and/or to limit or suspend supplier approval in case of major breach of BU and/or Zodiac Aerospace quality and regulatory requirements

b) Prevent use of suspected non-conforming supplied product

Summary of Duties:

Evaluation of new suppliers:

a) Define in collaboration with other BU departments (Procurement, Engineering…) the quality and regulatory requirements applicable to the new supplier and define the initial evaluation activities required to be performed.

b) Conduct on-site audit in order to assess the compliance of potential new supplier with applicable quality and regulatory requirements and supplier’s ability to deliver quality products on time

c) Validate any deviation to quality and regulatory requirements and define with Procurement organization relevant mitigation action

d) Check that all evaluation activities assigned to SQE are performed in due time and the results of evaluation activities meet acceptance criteria defined (deviation to quality and regulatory requirements are in control)

e) Participate in the approval process of a new supplier.

f) Maintain a register of approved suppliers including approval status

Continuous Evaluation of current approved suppliers

a) Define in collaboration with other BU departments (Procurement, Engineering…) periodic supplier audit program in order to assess the continued compliance of approved suppliers with quality and regulatory requirements

b) Conduct planned assessment/audit assigned to SQE and implement with the supplier the required corrective/preventive actions

c) Identify together with the BU departments and the supplier actions to be implemented in case of poor quality performance

d) Monitor qualification of special processes

e) Alert Procurement Organization and Quality manager in case of unfulfilled quality and regulatory requirements by the supplier

Management of supplier quality issues

a) Review and analyze supplier non-conformance reports in order to identify actions to be implemented (on site supplier audit, meeting with supplier, review of incoming inspection plan,)

b) Work directly with the supplier to investigate non-quality root causes and implement related containment, corrective and preventive actions.

c) Establish a preventive action plan together with internal BU Departments and supplier in case of recurrent quality issue and monitor its implementation and effectiveness.

d) Identify areas for supplier improvement in collaboration with Procurement Organization.

e) Alert Procurement Organization and Quality manager in case of recurrent quality issues and/or lack of reactivity to implement corrective action

Monitor new product introduction

a) With Design Suppliers, check that applicable requirements related to design process and design control are respected.

b) Support suppliers on manufacturing process qualifications and monitor their effectiveness

c) Support suppliers on maintenance and repair process qualifications and approval (when applicable)

d) Review and approve supplier First Article Inspection dossier in order to verify that the supplier has defined, validated and implemented a repeatable production process (including production document, tooling validation, qualification of operator) able to produce products that meet requirements. (FAI review can be perform by review of objective evidence provided by supplier or by overseeing of FAI activities at supplier’s facility)

e) Review and approve delta FAI in case of product design change and/or production process changes

f) Communicate results and status of FAI to BU Department involved

Manage supplier inspection delegation

a) Define requirements for delegation of product release

b) Evaluate the supplier against the inspection delegation requirements in order to determine whether he would qualify for inspection delegation

c) Grant supplier delegation if the supplier meets the delegation requirements in accordance with approved BU process

d) Check continued compliance of supplier with inspection delegation requirements (periodic on site audit, monitoring of the effectiveness of supplier delegation process)

Supplier improvement

a) Lead efforts to resolve supplier quality and regulatory issues and to secure expected quality performance by the supplier base

b) In collaboration with Procurement and Engineering, implement quality related action plans to enable supply base to achieve required performance level and prevent quality issues re-occurrences

c) Interface within the BU to identify process and product improvement opportunities in order to secure supplier capability and quality.

d) Support problem solving activities at suppliers’ facility that focus on continuous improvement and supplier prevention plan.

e) Support suppliers on quality tools and techniques implementation

Participate in supplier relationship activities

a) Is the focal point of escalation within the BU for supplier quality related issues

b) Participate in supplier risk analysis and work transfer activities

c) Participate in Procurement or Quality organization request to Supplier management meetings

Relationship with other functions (within the BU)

a) Is the primary interface for the BU with Zodiac Aerospace Group Quality Supply Chain Team.

b) Is a key contributor to internal/external audit related to suppliers, including audits performed by authorities at supplier’s facility

c) Coordinate action plans related to supplier quality issues

d) Be a referent expert for receiving inspection, third party source inspectors, buyers/planners, program manager, quality engineers on all supplier quality related activities.

e) Act as a key focal to ensure the BU Quality System is in full compliance with the ISO, EN/AS 9100 and other regulatory standards for requirements related to suppliers.

f) Ensure that all Supplier Quality related activities are conducted in compliance with the Zodiac Aerospace Standards.

SQE Performance Evaluation / Measurement

a) Monthly Supplier Quality Performance (SNCR)

b) Accuracy of SNCR measurement

c) Execution of Corrective Actions and Improvement Action Plans

d) Execution of Supplier audits planned in accordance with agreed schedule

e) Execution of new supplier evaluation activities planned in accordance with agreed schedule

f) Adherence to and compliance with BU strategies (Quality and Procurement).

Qualifications:

Required skills:

Level 1

a) Education: 4/5 years of university degree (BS, MS or equivalent) in Manufacturing, Mechanical, Electronic, Composite or Industrial Engineering or equivalent education or experience.

b) Experience: 2+ years of progressive quality experience in aerospace, automotive, or industrial manufacturing environment

c) AS/EN/JISQ 9100 Knowledge

d) Supplier auditor qualified

e) Problem solving and quality tools (Pareto, 8D, Ishikawa, DMAIC…)

f) QRQC

g) FMEA and Control plan

h) Basic understanding of material management

i) Basic understanding of Part-21 and Part-145

j) Basic understanding of process manufacturing management (SPC, special processes) and project management

Level 2
