Siemens Mobility Limited have an exciting opportunity for a Project Planner to join our Rail Electrification team within our Rail Infrastructure business in York.

The Rail Electrification business supplies switchgear equipment as well as the SCADA control system alongside other engineering solutions to rail industry operators and suppliers worldwide. This includes the ASG 25 Air insulated Switchgear, which is now designed, manufactured, built & tested in the UK. We have earned a respected reputation in the industry which has developed as a result of our success in delivering to our customers. In addition, we are leading the way within the railway industry in developing the next generation of rail technology such as the Static Var Compensator & Static Frequency Compensator, so this is a great time to join the business in the development of a new, exciting technology.

Your role, and what you’ll be doing:

As part of the Rail Electrification business, the Project Planner has responsibility for the effective planning of design and build projects. The Project Planner works under the direction of the Senior Planner to produce robust and accurate tender, baseline and progressed programmes for implementation by the project team.

The Planner will have responsibility for developing and maintaining resource and cost loaded programmes meeting contractual requirements to enable safe, timely and profitable project completion in line with customers satisfaction. The planner will be expected to provide support and input into wider business processes when required to assist with day to day operations. 

What will be Responsibilities?

·  Ensure that logically linked, cost and resource loaded programmes are developed, monitored and reported on using Primavera P6
·  Ensure plans / programmes are appropriately structured, coded, resourced, budgeted and progressed to provide the Project Management team and members with an indication of the status of the project and to ensure the programme is realistic and achievable
·  Collaborate with design, operational and estimating colleagues at contract award to ensure a baseline programme is developed to the highest of standards that will achieve the best possible business outcomes
·  Engage with subcontractor project teams to integrate external programmes into a single logically linked project programme showing definitive work packages and key interface milestones
·  Support Project Managers with scheduling expertise including the capture and management of change events
·  Analyse schedule, resource, cost and risk data throughout the project lifecycle to aid the maintenance and progress of the critical path
·  Build float into programmes using recognised methods in order to promote confidence in milestone achievement
·  Conduct site visits and engage with site teams to verify project progress
·  Resource loading and resource levelling/productivity exercises to suit project and portfolio requirements
·  Perform and comment on Earned Value Management reports, early/late S-curves, milestone slippage reports and float erosion reports
·  Attend progress meetings as required, both internal and external, to report on progress and risk, and to provide specialist programme/project controls support to the team
·  Promote planning best practice throughout all levels of the business at all opportunities and take part in business improvement and professional development activities
·  Input into the development of team spirit and trustworthiness within project team, client and subcontractors

What Qualifications, Skills and Experience do I need?

·  Applicants must hold a qualification to HNC or equivalent relevant to the role
·  Degree qualified in Engineering / Project Management (preferred)
·  Strong capability operating Primavera P6 (essential)
·  Good capability in MS Office applications, in particular, MS Excel
·  Planning experience within large multi-disciplinary companies or within UK railway projects (preferred)
·  Strong commercial aptitude & awareness (essential)
·  A working knowledge of NEC3 forms of contract (preferred)
·  Knowledge and Interest in project controls and project management practices (essential)
·  Strong management skills & ability in terms of written & verbal communication; presentation skills; problem identification, categorisation and solving; people skills; customer management; negotiation skills and change management (essential)
