Mars Petcare is currently seeking a Pilot Plant Technician in Thompson Station, TN

Purpose of Role
This position is responsible for the onsite facilitation of all pilot plant experimentation including the analysis of test matrixes, operation of equipment, procurement of all test materials, documentation of results and responsible for recommendation of key next steps. Standard days/hours for this role are Mon – Thursday 7-5:30 .

Principal Accountabilities

• Set up pilot plant equipment and prepare resources based on test design and parameters
• Operate of a wide range of equipment including existing systems as well as new technology
• Document all critical testing criteria and critical observations throughout experimentation
• Document and catalogue required quality control documents including thermal process evaluations
• Document pilot plant trials, interpret results and recommend action plan
• Responsible for maintaining associate safety and food safety at all times in the Pilot Plant
• Manages records and receives inventory to and from the Pilot Plant. Informs the Pilot Plant manager when new product or raw material needs to be ordered.
• Provides Quality control for finished product produced in the Pilot Plant and ensures that all products leaving the site are safe.
• Use creativity and innovation to solve mechanical or organizational problems occurring during experiments, test trials and production runs. React to getting assignments completed in a timely, effective manner.
• Plans, collects materials for, and executes trial production and development tests.
• Develops and updates Standard Operating Procedures for equipment and procedures in the Pilot Plant.
• Collects and analyses data on critical process parameters to draw conclusive decisions from results.
• Interacts with Product and Process Development as well as other R&D associates to discuss test objectives and results. Documents test results.
• Cleans and sanitizes equipment/machinery and plant facility according to good manufacturing and sanitation practices.
• Performs other tasks as assigned.

Qualifications

Minimum

• BA/BS in Physics, Engineering or similar, OR equivalent work experience to include a broad and diverse knowledge of food production, scheduling and maintenance.
• Mechanical skills and knowledge of food manufacturing.
• 2 years’ work experience
• Strong written and verbal communication skills combined with problem solving and troubleshooting skills.
• Ability to work in a team environment.
• Must have ability to learn to operate any of the process equipment, as well as understand process and product testing requirements.
• Ability to travel when required.
• Current driver’s license.
• Ability to lift 55 lbs.
• Ability to climb ladders and work at heights.
• Ability to drive a forklift and pallet jack.

• Varied knowledge in different types of food manufacturing areas
• Understanding of food sterilization
• Understanding of the extrusion process
• Familiarity with Microsoft Office: Excel, Word, PowerPoint and Lotus Notes
