Janssen Biologics (JBIO), Janssen Research and Development, L.L.C., a member of Johnson and Johnson's Family of Companies, is recruiting for a Research Scientist located in Spring House, PA. Biotherapeutics works on projects from five Therapeutic Areas (TA) and enables discovery of new therapeutic concepts in collaboration with TA discovery counterparts. Supporting the CAR-T Platform group within Biotherapeutics, this position will be accountable for early discovery efforts to engineer CAR-T cells for initial functional characterization in conjunction with the Biotherapeutics team and Oncology Therapeutic Area stakeholders. The key responsibilities include, but are not limited to: daily maintenance of cell cultures to enable the production of lentiviral particles and/or CAR-T cells; working knowledge of viral-based production technologies and quality control (QC) techniques; ability to transduce primary human T-cells with both lenti- and adeno-associated viral particles; utilize flow cytometric techniques to determine transduction efficiency and to perform related QC measurements of engineered cells; provide functional and intellectual support to the CAR-T cell group within JBIO.

Essential Functions:
·  Strong experience in research-scale lentivirus vector/particle generation
·  Working knowledge of assays that measure infectious and physical viral titer
·  Expertise in primary T cell gene transfer via lentiviral transduction
·  Isolation of primary human immune cells, including T-lymphocytes, from human blood and subsequent aseptic cell culture
·  Phenotypically characterize genetically modified primary T-lymphocytes using flow cytometric instrumentation
·  Viral vector-based or electroporation-based modification of tumor cell lines and primary human T-cells
·  Maintain an electronic lab notebook and contribute to support documentation in line with company standards
·  Support the CAR-T R&D team in JBIO to enable timely development and delivery of novel molecular entities to therapeutic area stakeholders
·  Self-motivated and eager to take on temporary responsibilities outside of initial job description

Desired profile

Qualifications

·  B.Sc. with 1-3 years of T cell biology experience in academic or industrial background
·  Minimum of 2 years' experience with lentiviral-based gene delivery (primary T-cell preferred)
·  Ability to work independently with advanced flow cytometry equipment
·  Expertise in mammalian cell culture, particularly with primary human T-cells, is essential
·  Outstanding collaborative and communication skills
