Main Responsibilities:

·  This position will be working at the Mexico Engineering Center, assigned to a design team.
·  Perform analysis and design of the electric drive system design consisting of electric machines, power electronics, control systems, wiring systems, and related systems.
·  Make recommendations to optimize system performance, while meeting the application requirements.
·  Work with product platform groups to translate customer needs and platform requirements into electric drive system and component requirements while taking particular care at interfaces, meeting program requirements (performance, cost, quality and schedule), diagnostic needs, environmental requirements, and applicable industry standards.
·  Work with platform product engineering to execute product design through technology development, critical component development, and product development formal processes.
·  Work with product platform engineers to integrate electric drive systems on Deere vehicles. This involves designing and defining mechanical, signal, fluid, and electrical power interfaces.
·  Within EDSG, execute the critical component development process. Duties include managing work flow, supporting documentation creation, and common practices such as FMEAs, design reviews, FGRs, change management, product validation, product verification, and diagnostic development.
·  Collaborate with Deere platforms, consultants and suppliers for system and component analysis, design, and development. This will include interfacing with other analysis functions such as heat transfer modeling, dynamic modeling, noise and vibration analysis, finite element analysis, etc.
·  Contribute to identifying potential electric drive applications with differentiating value to customers, working with vehicle platforms.
·  Lead problem resolution with technology on vehicle platform applications. Works closely with platform engineers to understand, define and correct technical problems.
·  Modeling/Simulation: A system engineer is responsible for the development of appropriate system models representing the dynamics of the electric drive components, systems, vehicle interactions, and control algorithms. This includes the successful application of model based development in the design process. This engineer will also support the development of system control algorithms to solve complex problems.
·  Vehicle and system commissioning: This engineer will assist platform engineers to commission new systems and vehicles, including troubleshooting vehicle system problems and giving technical guidance to product platforms. Work closely with external suppliers to procure components that meet the product specification
·  Conduct design reviews for the component and subsystem.

 

What Skills You Need:

·  High technical skill in either mechanical or electrical engineering. (1 – 3 years).
·  Ability to rapidly learn engineering skills from other disciplines.
·  Demonstrated ability to constructively work with suppliers in the application and design of electric drive system components.
·  Demonstrated ability to constructively work with teams having diverse skills and from different cultural backgrounds.
·  Demonstrated ability to lead project teams meeting project performance, schedule, and budget goals.
·  Expert user of simulation/modeling tools such as MATLAB/Simulink
·  Skilled user of lab equipment such as dynamometers, oscilloscopes, current sensors and other tools for design and debug of electric drives.
·  Communication skills: Must have excellent listening skills. Chooses appropriate communication vehicle for a given situation and uses it appropriately. Written communication requirements include generating product/system requirements documents of significant magnitude, creating technical reports suitable for long-term archiving, and creating presentations. Verbal communication requirements include making presentations and participating in meetings.
·  Ability to pursue technical solutions in the conceptual realm, modeling realm, and prototype/production hardware realm.

 

What Makes You Stand Out:

·  Technical experience relating to the design and development electric drive systems.
·  Work experience in component development of electric machines, power electronics, connectors and conductors. Knowledge of EPDP sub-process areas broader than product design. Examples include safety and compliance, manufacturing, customer support, supply management, and marketing.
·  Experience mentoring engineers, interns, EDPs .
·  Knowledge of vehicle systems interfacing with electric drives. Examples include diesel engines, gearboxes, vehicle controllers, hydraulic lubrication, and water-glycol cooling.
·  Advanced technical degree in electric drive field.
·  Experience with vehicle platform engineering (examples include tractors, combines, crop care).
·  Knowledge of manufacturing processes that are used for electrical components.
·  Knowledge simulation tools (Spice, Matlab, Magnetism, etc) * Knowledge of CAN communications.
·  Familiar with PDM/Windchill.

 

Education (or equivalent experience):

B.S. Mechatronics Engineering, Electrical/Electronics Engineering, Digital Systems and Robotics Engineering or similar.
