About the Position

Global Engineering and Manufacturing Technology has the responsibility to invent, design, specify and deliver product and process technologies to make Goodyear's Business Strategies achievable. This department engineers and integrates new technologies to support new products and increased manufacturing capability. It also provides direct and timely support to plant production, engineering, maintenance and energy conservation.

 

This position is responsible for researching and supporting the development of projects with low to moderate complexity or working on complex projects in cooperation with more experienced personnel. The incumbent seeks solutions to technical problems, conducts work on assigned tasks and exhibits enough process knowledge to be able to operate in the field.  This role will require technical proficiency, problem solving and project management as it relates to different areas of tire manufacturing.  The initial focus includes, but is not limited to specification, development, vendor management, commissioning and support of manufacturing equipment.  This will expand into other areas as required by team and business needs.

 

This individual will work with mechanical, civil and electrical engineers, as well as engineering contractors and suppliers. The individual will also work closely with Corporate Plant Planning, Tire Engineering, Regional Quality and/or the Plant Engineers during project scope development phases.

 

Primary Responsibilities

·  Develop equipment designs and layouts using AUTO-CAD Electrical.
·  Support the development, specification, estimation, procurement, validation, installation and commissioning of processes and equipment. 
·  Actively participate in vendor and project management.
·  Travel to manufacturing locations to assist with the installation and commissioning of equipment; travel to vendors to support in design reviews and acceptance testing of equipment. 
·  Play a key role in the troubleshooting and resolution of equipment performance issues.
·  Support activities to ensure that global standards are adhered to by equipment suppliers and manufacturing partners.
·  Prepare machine control and/or interface programming
·  Support with the integration of equipment into plant specification and tracking systems
·  Review machine and/or machine interface specification, procurement, check out, installation and commissioning to Goodyear specifications and global equipment standards
·  Coordination of contractors and/or vendors and plant for commissioning of equipment
·  Support with supplier development, compliance and management

 

Required Education and Experience

·  Minimum of a bachelor’s degree in STEM (Science/Technology/Engineering/Math), with consideration for Mechanical Technology degree
·  Minimum 2-5 years’ experience
·  Improve skills through application of knowledge gained from additional education/experience/training
·  Understand functional relationships of assigned division by interacting with team and organizations
·  Participate in cross-functional assignment, projects, and divisional initiatives, for improved self-development
·  Experience with specification, procurement and installation of equipment
·  Preferred/Desired Skills
·  Visual Basic (VB6 and VB.NET), C#, C++, xml, Java and sql programming skills
·  Knowledge of Message Oriented Middleware (Apache ActiveMQ/Camel/Karaf)
·  Experience with programming Rockwell and/or Siemens PLCs
·  Ethernet IP and remote I/O systems knowledge
·  Basic understanding of pneumatic and hydraulic systems
·  Experience with AUTO-CAD or similar software
·  Understanding of safety compliance including CE
·  Knowledge of National Electric Code standards (NFPA-79, NFPA 70E)

·  Ability to function well in a team environment.

·  Demonstrate and instill positive attitudes on peers.

·  Willingness to travel 25-30%, domestically and internationally, and work occasional off-hours is required.
