Role Summary/Purpose

The Mechanics and Design group in GE Global Research Center (GRC) is actively searching for dynamic and passionate doctoral or master’s level scientists/engineers with a background in Computational Geometry and CAD/CAM to work on Additive Manufacturing (AM), Digital Manufacturing, Virtual and Augmented Reality (VR/AR) and multitude of other similar exciting projects.
Essential Responsibilities

The successful candidate for this position will be a member of the Probabilistics, Structure and Manufacturing Design Lab and will participate in the design, development and prototyping of 3D geometry algorithms for different applications in part and process modeling, machining, toolpath programming, part and asset tracking, VR/AR visualization, 3D indoor mapping, etc. You will be working with a cross functional team comprising of scientists and engineers from different backgrounds such as thermo-mechanical analysis, materials, inspection, robotics, AI/ML, Computer Vision, IIOT, edge computing, human factors etc. You will be expected to come up with new algorithms and ideas, articulate these ideas and apply them to solve challenging business problems. You will also work with the team to seek external opportunities including government agencies such as DOD, DOE, DARPA, etc. and collaboration partners.
Qualifications/Requirements

·  Doctorate degree in Mechanical Engineering, Aerospace Engineering, or related discipline or Master's degree in Mechanical Engineering, Aerospace Engineering, or related discipline with at least 5 years industrial experience 
·  Fundamental understanding of basic and advanced Computational Geometry concepts and algorithms such as NURBS, B-Spline and Bezier curves and surfaces, BREP, CSG, 3D convex hulls, Voronoi diagrams, 3D triangulations, etc. 
·  Experience working on any mechanical CAD software such as NX, CREO, CATIA, etc. 
·  Experience in developing and testing 3D geometry algorithms for CAD/CAM applications 
·  Experience with programming languages such as C, C++, C#, MATLAB, Python, etc. 
·  Legal authorization to work in the U.S. is required. We will not sponsor individuals at the Masters level for employment visas, now or in the future, for this job opening

Desired Characteristics

·  Experience working with 3D meshes and 3D point clouds 
·  Experience with VR/AR hardware such as Oculus, Vive, Hololens, etc. and software such as Unity, Unreal, etc. 
·  Knowledge about VR/AR peripherals such as hand tracking, motion capture, eye and gaze tracking, etc. 
·  Knowledge about network protocols such as TCP/IP, ZeroMQ, MQTT, etc. 
·  Experience in Additive Manufacturing 
·  Experience in data analytics and digital manufacturing 
·  Ability to think big and think at a systems level 
·  Demonstrated interpersonal, leadership and communication skills in a global team environment
