Role Summary/Purpose

The GE Additive Engineering Material Laboratory Technician will be responsible for the managing and executing tasks and projects using equipment within the materials laboratories located at the Additive Technology Center (ATC), Disruptive Innovation Laboratory (DIL), and future GE Additive site.
Essential Responsibilities

In addition, the expectation of the GE Additive Engineering Material Laboratory Technician includes:

·  Effectively use metrology and metallographic tools, such as micrometers, calipers, profilometers, optical microscopes for inspection of hardware and material coupons

·  Gather, record, compile, and interpret quantitative and qualitative material characteristic data, such as surface finish, porosity, grain size, etc.

·  Conduct experiments and inspections on assigned processes, working with Engineering counterparts to develop and document the processes as well as suggest improvements

·  Follow technical plans and specifications to meet desired manufacturing objectives and develop plans and specifications when needed

·  Participate in internal audit activities (specific to work area and expertise)

·  Participate on teams assigned to address specific organizational initiatives and activities

·  Support in preparation of invention disclosures that protect the technology that provides a competitive advantage to the business

·  Assure proper documentation of technical data is generated for the assigned projects and/or tasks that is consistent with engineering policies and procedures

·  Effective verbal communication skills with team members and potential external customers

·  Take ownership for assigned lab areas including: equipment, supplies, environmental health and safety (EHS), shop cleanliness

·  Ability to operate thermal processing equipment (i.e., air / vacuum furnaces) operation

·  Perform / Schedule periodic maintenance and safety inspections of assigned equipment

Qualifications/Requirements

·  Associate’s degree in applicable technical discipline from an accredited school or institution (OR High school diploma / GED (2) years work experience in a manufacturing / testing environment)

Desired Characteristics

·  Manufacturing experience in a development process engineering environment

·  Experience in one or more of the following process technologies:

·  Additive manufacturing equipment (i.e., laser powder bed, electron beam powder bed, binderjet) operation

·  Metallurgical specimen preparation, including chemical etching

·  Metallurgical specimen characterization

·  General machine tool operation

·  Hand benching

·  Electro discharge machining (EDM)

·  Basic proficiency with computers, including Microsoft Office

·  Experience using statistical tools and concepts (e.g., EXCEL, Minitab, etc…)

·  Experience working a team-based environment

·  Strong technical documentation and organizational skills

·  Strong interpersonal and communication skills
