The Job: Utility Plant Project Engineer

Purpose
Responsible for daily Engineering support of the Operations and Maintenance Departments through continuous interaction and ongoing troubleshooting efforts. The candidate will also directly manage or provide support to assigned Engineering Projects through Investigation, Design, Construction, Commissioning and Turnover Project phases.

Essential Job Functions
·  Familiar working within Power Generation or equivalent industrial environment.
·  Experienced in safe work practices within an operating space including: Job Safety Analysis, Lock Out Tag Out, Confined Space Entry, Fall Arrest, Hot Work, etc.
·  Strong troubleshooting and problem-solving capabilities with focus on Root Cause Analysis.
·  Ability to read and retain written data as well as the ability to interpret and understand technical system drawings.
·  Committed to team culture by consistently promoting positive atmosphere for creative solutions and participating in dialogue that encourages and inspires collaborative participation.
·  Ability to effectively present technical information at all levels, through both written and verbal communication.
·  Background in scheduling and completing work scopes with respect to Balance of Plant Operations.
·  Familiarity managing scopes across multiple disciplines including HVAC, civil and structural steel, plumbing, pipe fitting, electrical, controls and fire protection.
·  Ability to accurately red-line plant documents to capture ongoing plant modifications.
·  Capable of working autonomously within set parameters to achieve long-term goals and milestones.
·  Comfortable receiving and providing direction to contractors as well as in-house union and management staff.
·  Equipment specific experience with Boilers, Chillers, Combustion Turbines, Steam Turbines, High Voltage Switchgear, etc. is a plus.
·  Process specific experience with Chilled Water, Steam and Electrical distribution systems, Management of Change, Document Control Procedures, Lock Out Tag Out, etc. is a plus.
·  Responsible for ensuring that equipment logs, and reports are being maintained.
·  Responsible for informing the Plant Manager and/or Unit Supervisor in the event any equipment is unable to support plant operations.
·  Responsible for procuring and coordinating the necessary service, material, and other support items to ensure that plant maintenance and performance commitments are met.
·  Present engineering, economic analysis, plans and recommendations to plant staff, management and directors.
·  Other duties as assigned.

Requirements

·  Thorough knowledge of all plant systems and understanding of process diagrams, simple electrical diagrams and operating instructions.
·  Extensive knowledge in the installation of mechanical and electrical equipment in a generating station.
·  Extensive knowledge of steam production and chilled water facilities.
·  Ability to use analytical judgment to plan and perform diversified work, making decisions within prescribed limitations.
·  Proficiency in Microsoft Office and Maximo CMMS programs.
·  Ability to effectively communicate with co-workers and take direction from others.
·  Ability to work overtime, as well as, any schedule including nights and weekends.
·  Working knowledge of ASME Boiler and Power Piping codes and standards.

Essential Physical Abilities

·  Ability to meet highest attendance requirements
·  Regularly required to use hands and arms to touch or feel, and use tools.
·  Frequently is required to stand; walk; sit; and stoop, kneel, or crouch.
·  Occasionally required to climb or balance.
·  The employee must regularly lift and/or move up to 50 pounds.
·  Specific vision abilities required by this job include close vision, distance vision, color vision, depth perception, and ability to adjust focus.
·  Ability to use personal computer, calculator, etc.

Education/Experience

·  B.S. in Project Engineering degree or equivalent, M.S. in Project Engineering preferred and Five (5) or more years of relevant experience or
·  Ten (10) years of experience supervising technical, maintenance and/or operations personnel.
·  Must have demonstrated technical ability in the operation and maintenance of systems.
·  Must have in-depth knowledge of power generation, steam and chilled water equipment and technology.
