The Job: Operations Shift Supervisor

Purpose
Responsible for the safe and reliable start-up, operation and continuous monitoring of boilers, steam generators, steam distribution system, steam turbines, gas turbines, and ancillary equipment as directed by Plant Management.  To interface with multiple host customers, ENGIE maintenance department and office staff in a professional manner.

Essential Job Functions
·  Work closely with Operations Manager.
·  Supervise Operations Department personnel assigned to your shift or when providing coverage for other Shift Supervisors.
·  Monitor and adjust, as needed, scheduling coverages for other Shifts.
·  Supervise the operation of multiple gas-fired boilers, steam & gas turbines, reciprocation engines, generators and auxiliary equipment in a safe and efficient manner. 
·  Must understand and be proficient in the use of computerized plant control systems in order to supervisor or make adjustment to plant operating conditions necessary to meet and avoid interruptions of customer process demands. 
·  Closely interfaces with Plant Maintenance, Administrative and Management staff, contractors, our Customer’s personnel, and the public.
·  Work in a team environment; follow directions and instructions from, or advise as necessary, members of management.
·  Supervise the plant water chemistry program.
·  Supervise or perform preventive maintenance such as lubrication of equipment and makes minor equipment repairs or adjustments as necessary.
·  Must utilize Plant computerized maintenance management system (CMMS/Maximo) in order to input work requests for equipment repair.  
·  Maintain and fill out operational logs, environmental logs and other data logs as required.
·  Participate in training of new employees. 
·  Understand, review, and update procedures as required.
·  Must be able to read and interpret operation and service manuals to evaluate and maintain proper operation of machinery.
·  Supervise, and perform as necessary, routine boiler water chemistry tests including recording and interpreting results to administer proper boiler chemistry.
·  Will act as a team member with all employees of the ENGIE staff.
·  Must understand and comply with all ENGIE and CENC policies, procedures, and safety rules.
·  Carries out other duties as assigned.

Requirements

·  Thorough knowledge of all plant systems and understanding of process diagrams, simple electrical diagrams and operating instructions.
·  Ability to use analytical judgment to plan and perform diversified work, making decisions within prescribed limitations.
·  Ability to take direction from others.
·  Ability to work a rotating shift schedule of four (4) days on, and four (4) days off that could include nights, holidays, and weekends in support of facilities with continuous production.
·  Will need to be available to work scheduled, unscheduled overtime, and to be on call as required, due to heavy demand periods, outages and sick/vacation coverage as needed.
·  Provide sick and vacation coverage, as needed, for other positions within the plant.
·  Ability to respond to plant emergencies/call-ins (day or night) holidays, weekends.

Essential Physical Abilities

·  Ability to meet highest attendance requirements.
·  Ability to communicate effectively, both written and verbally.
·  Ability to handle multiple assignments on a timely basis with a high degree of accuracy.
·  Ability to use personal computer, calculator, etc.
·  Could involve some lifting.
·  Must have and maintain a valid driver’s license and must be insurable under the Company’s auto insurance program.
·  Must be able to hear audible alarms and respond to associated equipment malfunctions.
·  Capable of frequently standing; walking; balancing, sitting; climbing (ladders, stairs, ramps, catwalks, stacks and the like as required) up to 150ft; stooping; squatting; crouching; crawling; kneeling; reaching; grasping; pushing; pulling; lifting (min. 50lbs); feeling; talking and hearing.
·  Capable of performing repetitive motions as required.
·  Required to have eyesight corrected at 20/40 to accurately read and interpret such as but not limited to instruments, gauges, and manuals.
·  Must be physically capable of entering and working in a confined space (crawl spaces, shafts, small enclosed areas, pipes and the like) as required.
·  Must be physically capable of performing demanding work at various heights and in adverse conditions during operations, shutdowns, and in fire/emergency activities.
·  Must be physically capable of wearing protective equipment (PPE) including but not limited to half and full-face respirators, fall protection equipment, hardhat, safety shoes, safety glasses etc.
·  Ability to pass a respirator physical and respirator fit test (if applicable)

Education/Experience

·  Minimum of a high school diploma or equivalent.
·  Seven to ten years of experience in power plant operations and in-depth knowledge of electrical and controls systems or equivalent.
