Application Oracle Database Administrator

Position Description
CGI is seeking to hire an Application Oracle Database Administrator with a minimum of 6 years of experience to join our team in Herndon, VA. This is an exciting full-time opportunity to work in a fast-paced team environment supporting one of the largest leaders in the secondary mortgage industry. We take an innovative approach to supporting our client, working side-by-side in an agile environment using emerging technologies.

In this role, you will:
- Plan computerized databases, including base definition, structure, documentation, long-range requirements, operational guidelines and protection.
- Ensure accuracy and completeness of data in master files and various support tools, such as base dictionaries.
- Establish and maintain security and integrity controls, formulate and monitor policies, procedures and standards relating to database management along with proposing and implements enhancements that will improve the performance and reliability of the system.

Your future duties and responsibilities
The Database Administrator is responsible for database performance monitoring and tuning activities, database space management and planning, and supporting Development/Implementation/Testing/Production environments.

The Database Administrator will:
• Develop solutions and resolve a wide range of issues, as necessary with limited direction
• Participate in determining objectives and approaches to assignments
• Provide production support to large databases used by multiple offices or staff for ongoing analysis
• Plan, schedule, and implement database upgrades and patches
• Maintain reporting function by troubleshooting problems or work interruptions
• Plan, coordinate and implement security measures to safeguard information in computer files against accidental or unauthorized damage, modification or disclosure
• Specify users and user access levels for each segment of database.
• Write and code logical and physical database descriptions and specify identifiers of database to management system or direct others in coding descriptions.
• Develop standards and guidelines to guide the use and acquisition of software and to protect vulnerable information.
• Develop methods for integrating different products so they work properly together such as customizing commercial databases to fit specific needs.
• Identify and evaluate industry trends in database systems to serve as a source of information and advice for upper management

Required qualifications to be successful in this role
• Expertise with required DBMS system including backups, tuning, user maintenance and system maintenance
• Expertise of software upgrade procedures
• Expertise of one or more of the major DBMS systems
• Ability to work independently with minimal supervision
• Ability to mentor Jr. DBA's and developers
• Strong communication skills

EDUCATION REQUIREMENTS
Bachelor degree in Computer Science, Information Systems or related field
