Where the Chemistry Happens

This position is part of an expert group that provides support for BASF Corporation sites in North America. It includes leading regionally and participating globally in the application of machinery expertise for large heavy duty and critical rotating equipment resulting in increases in performance, plant optimization, and reliability. You will be responsible for supporting all of North America plants and be a collaborative leader and contributor towards the alignment of global support, including the transfer of machinery experience into the engineering phase of capital projects.

The scope of your responsibilities include Reciprocating and Turbo Machinery, Compressors, Process Refrigeration, Electrical Drives, Pumps, and Industrial Process Machinery.

This position requires all candidates to either currently possess or obtain and maintain a TWIC (Transportation Worker Identification Credential) Card from the U. S. Department of Homeland Security.

Formula for Success

·  Developing new concepts and strategies to improve the reliability of the critical large machinery in North America, you will work with the plants to develop maintenance plans and strategies for the large machinery. This is a critical part of our strategy to improve the reliability of our plants and to reduce the unplanned Production losses. Other responsibilities will include proving technical expertise services to other BASF regions.
·  Leveraging your bachelor’s degree in Mechanical Engineering or other Engineering discipline and at least 15 years of experience in the chemical/petrochemical industry, you will work with procurement, technical site services organizations and the equipment suppliers to initiate and develop equipment strategies and care plans to achieve the needed asset reliability. This will involve regional and global equipment suppliers. Steering and supervision of 3rd party service providers or OEM Spare part management in cooperation with asset management including assistance in redesign of spare parts if OEM specification are not available
·  Demonstrating your advanced expertise in methods of mechanical engineering and machine design; maintenance of large machinery (turbo, recip, screw, etc); control concepts of large machinery (not necessarily specialist knowledge); and condition and performance monitoring, you will provide expert guidance in root cause analysis to optimize Life-Cycle-Costs (e.g. via Compressor Management), condition monitoring of machinery using innovative diagnostic tools, and assistance in Gap Analysis of the Turbomachinery needs for North America, including skill level set, training, and additional needs.
·  Utilizing your understanding of applicable industry codes, best industry practices regarding maintenance, and reliability activities and work processes, you will lead the collaboration of large and critical turbomachinery failure recovery activities, provide expert guidance and oversight in planned and predictive maintenance, major turbomachinery inspections / overhauls during Turnarounds (TAR), unplanned plant shutdowns / failures, etc. to ensure timely return to service and optimization of plant availability.
·  Your advanced experience in the design, maintenance and operation large heavy-duty rotating equipment to include turbo machinery troubleshooting and repair will be essential as you, lead and influence collaboration with related business and functional units of BASF Engineering & Maintenance worldwide, and lead respective global BASF working groups to align the development of related work processes, procedures, methodologies, tools and best practices for large turbo equipment. SAP or other Computerized Maintenance Management Systems experience is also required.
·  As a motivated self-started and influencer, along with excellent collaboration skills, with the ability to lead regional and global experts to provide innovative solutions to complex issues, you will initiate, lead and drive strategic and high impact analysis, studies, and activities to drive innovation and take a leadership position in the resolution of complex and demanding problems to ensure reliable operation to meet plant availability requirements.
·  While not have any direct supervision responsibilities, you will be tasked to provide expert technical support to the Engineering and Maintenance user community, have assigned regional/global responsibilities, and oversee/review the work executed by contractors related to specific projects/ assignments. You will also provide expert support and development for North American region, including active participation as a mentor in trainee programs to develop expertise.
