The Innovation Center in Ghent aims to deliver innovative solutions for BASFs seed business by developing valuable traits for various crops through biotechnology solutions and modern breeding techniques. The activities of the Innovation Center cover all aspects involved with the R&D process, from the initial stages of research to life cycle management, or as we call it, from the lab to the field.
What you can expect

·  You develop crop ontologies using semantic web technologies, methodologies and standards.
·  You develop and customize ontology management tools as part of BASF's ontology management framework.
·  You interact with domain experts, develop guidelines for ontology curation and use and train data curators.
·  You apply your expertise in ontologies in the development of a data integration framework using semantic web technologies.
·  You adopt external standards in data management and integration.
·  You work closely with data management, development and R&D project teams and are part of BASF's Digitalization of R&D community.
·  You build an understanding of BASF´s crop data.
·  You further develop your expertise to stay on top of state-of-the-art methodologies in the public domain.

What we expect

·  Preferably, you have a master's degree in bioinformatics, computational biology, data science or similar with minimum 4 years of working experience.
·  You have experience in engineering and curation of ontologies, controlled vocabularies and in semantic web technologies.
·  Furthermore, you have experience in development of data processing pipelines through scripts and work flows.
·  You are acquainted with reference data management (data stewardship and governance).
·  You are also familiar with biological data integration and have a good understanding of public ontologies or are eager to learn.
·  You have a high ability to work in a structured and precise manner and you are a born communicator.
·  You thrive in an international environment, collaborating in diverse teams.
·  And finally, you are fluent in English, both written and spoken.
