Occupational Health Nurse (1902652) – Seneca, South Carolina
**Shift Schedule is 1:00 PM to 10:00 PM Monday through Thursday, and 8:00 AM to 5:00 PM on Friday**

Where the Chemistry Happens
 
Reporting to the Occupational Health Nursing Team Leader, you will promote the health and safety of BASF employees by managing the health surveillance program according to BASF Corporate Medical Policies & Procedures, meeting regulatory requirements per OSHA and BASF Corporate standards, rendering nursing care to the ill and injured, directing emergency medical response, and coordinating/managing health awareness programs.  You will be a representative to employees, their managers, the union and the local medical community.
Additionally, you will maintain medical confidentiality throughout the treatment process and as you record, process, and maintain current and accurate medical records for each employee.

Formula for Success

·  Leveraging your educational background and licensure as a Registered Nurse in the State of South Carolina, combined with your professional occupational health experience, you will make nursing diagnoses, conduct specialized testing and evaluation of results, assess patients presenting symptoms of injury/illness in the Medical Department, as well as in plant emergency situations.  You will inform the appropriate person(s) of the patient’s condition and progress and maintain appropriate documentation.
·  Your strong leadership skills will be essential as you direct the activities of contract physicians, within the scope of practice defined by the States of South Carolina and the BASF Corporate Medical Department.
·  Demonstrating your working knowledge of current treatment, therapy and medications, knowledge of occupational health emergency first aid practices and initial occupational injury treatment, you will be responsible for medical triage, judging severity, disposition and referral.  Respond to first call for injuries/illnesses from first aiders and to consult about other work-related health issues as needed and during on-call coverage periods.  You will coordinate arrangements for transportation of employees to local medical facilities for evaluation and treatment.
·  Successfully engaging across the organization, you will communicate with Industrial Hygiene, Safety and Management regarding perceived health problems related to workplace exposure and promote the observance of good hygiene and safety practice in the performance of employees’ job duties.
·  As a trusted advisor, you will direct the activities and training of the emergency medical response team in coordination with site resources, arranging for certified instruction as required by state and federal regulations and BASF needs. (I.e., CPR, first aid, blood-borne pathogens). . 
·  Using your prior experience in an occupational medical setting, you will schedule exams, participate in pre-placement and other periodic examinations, perform precision testing (e.g., spirometry, audiometry, breath alcohol etc.), obtain urine specimens (including urine drug screens), dispense medications and immunizations, and administer treatments and apply dressings for minor injuries and illnesses.
·  With the assistance of the site physician, you will evaluate employees returning to work after absences, injuries, illnesses and surgeries. You will reduce medical absenteeism by facilitating early return to work from Short-Term Disability (STD) and Long-Term Disability (LTD) and monitor and manage early return to work, and limited duty assignments.  You will be expected to communicate with STD, LTD, or FMLA verification and case management services and you may assist with third party notification for STD, LTD, or FMLA case management or tracking.
·  Assisting stakeholders at all levels (including Supervisors, Safety, Insurance, Workers’ Compensation carrier, and Legal) in the control of lost time, you will help to reduce lost time for work-related illnesses/injuries through case management, facilitating earliest return to work for workers’ compensation cases.
·  Your keen attention to detail will be a valued asset as you ensure maintenance and upkeep of medical department physical plant and inventory control of medications and supplies.
·  Your excellent interpersonal skills will be a valued asset as you represent BASF in community and other outside activities and develop relationships with local practitioners.
