As a Digital Electronics Engineer, you will be working as part of the Product and Training Services (P&TS) Engineering Function that delivers all design, development, support to manufacturing and in-service support of radar products. You will be working across products such as: the Sampson multi-function radar fitted to the T45 Destroyer, the Artisan surveillance and target indication radar fitted to T23 Frigates, and the Commander Air Defence land-based radar, in service with the RAF.

This is a technical role relating to the digital electronic aspects of radar hardware design. You will undertake design and design maintenance tasks in respect of both new products and technology insertion into legacy products.

Radar is an exciting and unique engineering field, with increasingly sophisticated electronics, materials, and signal processing, leading to remarkable advances in the cost and performance of individual and networked radar systems. This role will provide you with the chance to develop as an engineer, with the potential for excellent career progression opportunities in the future.

Your main responsibilities as a Digital Electronics Engineer will involve:

The design and development of digital electronic assemblies, from specification through to release into service

Carrying out the design of boolean logic and sequential logic circuitry

Designing using discrete active components (transistors, diodes, operational amplifiers)

Designing using VHDL design language and methodology

Producing designs to programme Application Specific Integrated Circuits (ASICs) and Field Programmable Gate Arrays (FPGAs)

Translation of requirements into design detail

Component selection, schematic capture, and support to PCB layout

Verification of components and sub-systems using a combination of simulation, analysis, test, and assurance techniques

Maintenance of existing designs and implementation of technology insertion programmes

Designing, developing and demonstrating system integrations

Your skills and qualifications as a Digital Electronics Engineer:

Essential:

Degree or equivalent in Electronic Engineering (or strongly related subject)

Desirable:

Digital electronics development experience

Experience of complex digital design techniques and/or FPGA

Knowledge of operating in a defence or high safety integrity environment

What we're looking for in you:

You will be able to work effectively both independently, as well as within a team, with an honest and transparent attitude to the professional working environment.
