Storage Engineer

The Storage Engineer designs, creates, and configures, enterprise storage area network (SAN) infrastructure, backup systems, monitoring systems, and automation tools. The Engineer participates and leads Storage related projects; ensuring data integrity processes are maintained and system backups/recovery operations are successfully executed. The Engineer is knowledgeable in technologies for enterprise storage, monitoring, automation, websites, and databases; and utilizes that knowledge to build and maintain enterprise class systems.

Essential Job Duties & Responsibilities:

Participates in architecting and deploying Storage, backup/recovery, and automation solutions.

Participates and leads projects to design and manage SAN infrastructure, including logical and physical layout.

Researches and implements new technology initiatives.

Manages work within deadlines and provides weekly project status reports to management.

Maintains and enhances data analysis tools, websites, and automation for capacity planning, budgeting, project planning, and future state design.

Creates and expands self-healing capabilities through the use of APIs, business rules, and monitoring through concepts of Site Reliability Engineering (SRE).

Troubleshoots storage and SAN related issues.

Detects and diagnoses problems.

Develops monitors and maintains data replication configurations.

Prepares documentation regarding processes, procedures, and problem resolution techniques.

Pursues opportunities to improve and automate team procedures and systems performances.

Analyzes performance of the environment and provides recommendations for improvement.

Evaluates the storage infrastructure to ensure disaster recovery readiness.

Designs, tests, and maintains business continuity and disaster recovery plans for storage/backup administration.

Qualifications:

Job Requirements (Knowledge, Skills & Abilities)

Knowledge of various OS related functionality including, but not limited to Backups, Capacity Planning, Disaster Recovery, and File System Management.

Knowledge and experience with various storage replication software, SAN switches, Storage Virtualization and storage management software/hardware.

Ability to configure SAN infrastructures.

Knowledge of enterprise-type tape backup and recovery hardware/software.

Ability to develop complex scripting logic.

Strong verbal communication and technical writing skills.

Effective analytical and problem-solving skills.

Education and Experience Required

Bachelors degree and/or equivalent experience.

5+ years experience working with enterprise storage arrays and SANs required.

Comfortable working with the Command Line Interfaces.

Demonstrated experience creating APIs.

Demonstrated experience creating scripting libraries.

Additional Experience Preferred

3+ years of experience with replication software of different Vendors.

3+ years of Unix experience preferred.

Experience with Storage Virtualization technologies.

Experience in data backup systems of many Vendors
