Title: System Development Engineer III
Worksite: Seattle, Washington
Position Responsibilities:
Provide hands-on engineering design and participate in the implementation of software tools and processes to support Amazon's mission-critical services. Utilize relational database management systems (RDBMS), scripting, and SQL programming in a UNIX/Linux environment to support and manage distributed software for large-scale, performance-critical and highly available distributed systems. Plan and participate in implementing scaling activities for Amazon's software fleets, and troubleshoot issues with large-scale software systems and end-to-end systems, providing technical details, as well as risk assessment and recommendations for improvements. Partner with engineering teams to debug software, make enhancements to existing software systems, and design and develop software features to ensure systems are scalable and supportable. Devise and set standards around software maintainability, and design and implement automation for manual tasks to improve efficiency. Use SQL, Ruby, Python, Perl, Java and Business Intelligence Analytics, to collect and publish operational metrics and analyze trends.

BASIC QUALIFICATIONS
Position Requirements:
Bachelor's degree, or foreign equivalent, in Computer Science or a related field and five years of experience in the job offered or a related occupation. Employer will also accept seven years of experience in the job offered or a related occupation in lieu of the Bachelor's degree and five years. Must have two years of experience in the following skill(s): supporting large-scale, multi-tiered, multi-threaded, distributed software applications, tools systems, and services; designing and implementing platforms to deliver provisioning using shell scripting; experience with programming languages including SQL, PowerShell, Perl, Bash, Python, PHP, or Ruby; supporting and maintaining database servers including MySQL, Oracle, or equivalent database; and troubleshooting systemic problems in a Windows, Linux, or Unix based environment.
