DESCRIPTION

Amazon's Device Design Group is looking for a data scientist to facilitate user research experiments, sample selection, and quantitative research for Amazon devices programs. Programs include Echo (Alexa), Fire Tablet and Fire TV.

A successful candidate will create and plan execution. You will be a self-starter, comfortable with ambiguity in a collaborative and ever-changing environment. You will have the opportunity to think big while paying careful attention to detail. This is a highly visible position that will interact at all levels of the company. You must have the ability to quickly formulate plans that are deeply backed by data and execute across many work functions simultaneously.

As a member of the design team you will contribute to the product roadmap, drive future concepts, and deliver improvements to current applications within our Devices space. The ideal candidate has experience in digital enterprise products or software as a service, with strong blue sky/ideation skills, robust holistic systems thinking, deep attention to detail, and passion for making difficult tasks into simple and delightful experiences for customers. Collaboration and product ownership is essential, requiring you to be a great communicator, and successful presenter.

RESPONSIBILITIES INCLUDE
· Developing statistical natural language understanding (NLU) models that elevate the customer experience.
· Ensuring data quality throughout all stages of acquisition and processing, including data sourcing/collection, ground truth generation, normalization, transformation, and cross-lingual alignment/mapping.
· Auditing metrics data and success criteria.
· Work with engineers to develop efficient data querying infrastructure for both offline and online use cases.

Desired profile

BASIC QUALIFICATIONS

· Bachelor or Master's degree in highly quantitative field (CS, mathematics, statistics) or equivalent experience.
· Experience with R, Python, SQL, SAS, Matlab or other statistical/machine learning software.
· Experience developing experimental and analytic plans for data modeling processes, use of strong baselines, and the ability to accurately determine cause and effect relationships.
· Understanding of relevant statistical measures such as confidence intervals, significance of error measurements, development and evaluation data sets, etc.
