DESCRIPTION

Amazon is searching for passionate, talented, and inventive scientists currently enrolled in Master's or Doctoral degrees and looking to launch their careers with an industry leader in TTS (Text-To-Speech) and NLU (Natural Language Understanding). Do you have a strong machine learning background and want to help build new Speech and Language technology? Our mission is to push the boundaries in TTS, ASR, NLU, and Audio Signal Processing, in order to provide the best-possible experience for our customers.

As a Research Scientist intern your work will directly impact our customers in the form of products and services that make use of speech and language technology. You would work independently and as a team member, side-by-side with world experts in speech and language, to solve challenging ground breaking research problems, on production scale data.You will:
· Ensure data quality throughout all stages of acquisition and processing, including such areas as data sourcing/collection, ground truth generation, normalization, transformation, cross-lingual alignment/mapping, etc.
· Clean, analyze and select data to achieve goals
· Build and release models that elevate the customer experience and track impact over time
· Collaborate with colleagues from science, engineering and business backgrounds
· Present proposals and results in a clear manner backed by data and coupled with actionable conclusions
· Work with engineers to develop efficient data querying infrastructure for both offline and online use cases

PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS

· Experience in building speech recognition and natural language processing systems (e.g. commercial speech products or government speech projects)
· Algorithm development experience
· Ability to develop experimental and analytic plans for data modeling processes, use of strong baselines, ability to accurately determine cause and effect relations
· Technical fluency; comfort understanding and discussing architectural concepts and algorithms, schedule tradeoffs and new opportunities with technical team members
· Publications at top-tier peer-reviewed conferences or journals
Track record of diving into data to discover hidden patterns and of conducting error/deviation analysis
· The motivation to achieve results in a fast-paced environment.
· Strong attention to detail
· Comfortable working in a fast paced, highly collaborative, dynamic work environment
· Ability to think creatively and solve problems

Desired profile



BASIC QUALIFICATIONS

· Enrolled in Master’s or Ph.D. degree in Engineering, Computer Science, Machine Learning, Math, Statistics or related fields with specialization in text-to-speech, speech recognition, natural language processing, and/or machine learning.
· Technical skills in Java, C++, SQL, R, MATLAB, Python, or similar scripting and programming language
· Experience with various machine learning techniques and parameters that affect their performance
