Team description

The Digital Services (DGS) department manages customers and project bespoke solutions, apart from the functional departments in the organization.

Qantas Competency Center (QCC) team is in charge of managing UI web development and deliveries for one of our major customers: the airline Qantas. The team is fully dedicated to this Airline and implements technical and functional updates on the booking and servicing websites (www.qantas.com). The team is international and has 25 members. During dedicated time slots we do brainstormings, we discuss, we verify our ideas on potential customers and prototype. Basically we follow the innovation process from having the idea to build a MVP (Minimal Viable Product). Thus we strongly believe that trainees can be part of this process and help the team developing cutting edge prototypes to demonstrate and validate our ideas!

Main responsabilities

Google Nearby (https://developers.google.com/nearby) is a set of APIs developed by Google. These APis can control an “underutilized” feature of Android which allow two devices that are in close proximity to 'see' each other and exchange data (without pairing). Nearby uses three different signals to determine when two devices are close enough to connect—Wi-Fi, Bluetooth, and audio (ultrasonic sound). Thus Nearby can work offline (without internet connection).

We believe that these APIs have a strong potential for innovation.

The trainee will have to find a disruptive/useful application idea that can be integrated in the traveller journey steps (at home -> to the airport -> at the airport -> in flight ...).

Helped by the team, will have to build a prototype (proof of concept) based on latest android technologies.

He will have to follow a user centered design process (user interviews, low fidelity/paper prototypes, collecting feedback, iterations...).

He will be in contact with technical team as well as other competency center.

Requirements

Android/Java programming skills are required.

Web UI skills may be required (CSS, HTML5, Javascript).
