JOB DESCRIPTION:

We are seeking a R&D Development Technician to work with product development projects primarily for Abbott Structural Heart Division and support a small portion of other division laser cutting efforts. This role is responsible for fabricating laser cut parts as requested by engineering. These tasks include, but are not limited execution and fabrication of laser cut prototypes from a variety of materials but the primary materials being nitinol or stainless steel. We will also be seeking the willingness to process the laser cut materials using grit blasting and possibly electropolishing

RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • Operate and program the R&D lasers in Plymouth
  • Participate as required within R&D on various engineering efforts for new product development.
  • Assist in the generation of documentation (i.e. drawings, specs, procedures, travelers, etc.) required to support new product development projects.
  • Coordinate and execute building of prototypes/products per engineering design and instruction as requested per the request system.
  • Follow safety guidelines and utilize appropriate safety devices.
  • Create and Maintain accurate records to recreate desired build processes and designs.
  • Willingness for active participation, active listening, interpreting, cooperation and flexibility to allow for a successful self-managed team.
  • Ability to clearly communicate ideas, problems and solutions to engineers.
  • Support all Company initiatives as identified by management and in support of Quality Management Systems (QMS),
  • Environmental Management Systems (EMS), and other regulatory requirements.
  • Complies with U.S. Food and Drug Administration (FDA) regulations, other regulatory requirements, Company policies, operating procedures, processes, and task assignments. Maintains positive and cooperative communications and collaboration with all levels of employees, customers, contractors, and vendors.
  • Performs other related duties and responsibilities, on occasion, as assigned

QUALIFICATIONS:

  • Two-year technical degree or equivalent experience
  • Ability set up lasers to prototype products and fixtures
  • Desired to have some experience with Solidworks and Mastercam Software
  • Requires solid computer skills using Microsoft Office, Proficient using Microsoft Word and Excel.
  • 1-2 years experience, preferably with Fiber, CO2 and or Flat cutting lasers.
  • Ability to work within a team and as an individual contributor in a fast-paced, changing environment.
  • Ability to leverage and/or engage others to accomplish assigned tasks.
  • Experience working with metal cutting post processes is a plus but not necessary. These processes are grit blasting and or electropolishing.
  • There is also potential to aid in other prototyping areas such as nitinol heat setting and forming.
