Abbott Diabetes Care (ADC) is part of the Medical Devices division. ADC designs, develops and manufactures leading-edge blood glucose monitoring technology for use in both home and hospital settings, including our revolutionary Freestyle Libre Flash Glucose Monitoring System. In our Centre of Excellence in Witney, we design, develop and manufacture test strips and biosensors which are used by patients and healthcare professionals for the day-to-day management of diabetes.

ADC have an exciting opportunity for four Student Scientist to join our Research & Development team for an approximately 12month internship at our manufacturing site in Witney, Oxfordshire. 

Day to day activities will depend on the nature of the project assigned but typically include prototype fabrication, experimental trials, investigations and testing, data analysis, result interpretation, problem solving and report writing. Students will also be required to present their results within the project team and the rest of the department. There will also be regular interactions with other departments including Statistics, Manufacturing, Quality Assurance and Regulatory Affairs. Experimental work may involve handling venous and capillary blood samples.

Ideal candidate will be a proactive, well organised individual studying for a degree in chemistry, biology, biomedical science or similar, with an interest in diabetes, electrochemistry, materials science and biosensors. Person who is comfortable working as part of a team in a fast-paced, changing environment with good oral and written communication skills.
