JOB DESCRIPTION:

Primary Function/Primary Goals/Objectives:

The primary function of the Predictive Maintenance Technician is to deliver the services of the predictive maintenance program. Additionally, this position is responsible for evaluating all systems within the plant to determine if predictive maintenance testing would improve the reliability of the system. All systems identified as suitable candidates for testing will be set up in the plant's system and testing will be performed on a scheduled basis. At the present time, the plant is using the following predictive maintenance testing technologies:

  • Vibration analysis
  • Oil analysis
  • Temperature scanning with thermography camera
  • Ultrasonic testing of air and steam systems
  • Motor circuit analysis

This position is responsible to develop, create, and maintain the equipment and systems necessary to carry out the predictive maintenance testing. Additionally, new systems will be evaluated and added to the plant's program as justified based on a cost benefit analysis. In order to maintain the equipment in a condition that will permit it to run at levels below the alarm settings of the predictive maintenance program, the Predictive Maintenance Technician must maintain skills in the use of precision mechanics. The plant currently utilizes an ultrasonic grease caddy, a shaft laser alignment system and a laser pulley/sprocket alignment system. It is this position's responsibility to ensure that the plant mechanics are trained in the use of these systems, and that the proper emphasis has been placed on the use of all precision methods.

Major Responsibilities:

The major duties & responsibilities of this position are to provide the following services:

  • Evaluate equipment in the plant and determine if the equipment should be included in the plant's predictive maintenance program. This evaluation will be based on the utility of the information that can be gained by testing, as well as the benefit that can be derived from the test information
  • Build equipment databases in the vibration analysis software for equipment to be tested in the program, and determine the proper frequency of testing (i.e. monthly, bi-monthly, quarterly)
  • Create and maintain proper PM documentation to initiate the testing
  • Collect the vibration data from each machine on the scheduled date; analyze and develop corrective actions based on the data
  • Disseminate the corrective action information to responsible parties by initiating a work request in the Maximo CMMS system
  • Maintain a severe exception report to be to be distributed to management to ensure that all conditions receive top priority
  • Perform re-tests of equipment after repair to ensure that repairs made were effective
  • Maintain and update RBMWare database of follow-up work orders and associated cost avoidances
  • Develop and maintain PMs to initiate oil-sampling routines
  • Analyze the oil analysis data and prepare corrective action reports
  • Disseminate the corrective actions to appropriate parties by initiating a work request in the Maximo CMMS system
  • Develop knowledge of lubricants, the proper application of lubricants, examine the plant's use of lubricants and ensure that they are being properly applied. This involves ensuring that the right lubricant has been selected for the job, that it is being applied at the right frequency and in the right manner
  • Perform laser shaft, pulley and sprocket alignments when necessary to reduce vibration
  • Train plant mechanics on the use of the laser alignment systems
  • Perform belt tension checks using the tension checking equipment to ensure equipment belt tension is correct
  • Use of ultrasonic test equipment to inspect for utility leaks during PM routes
  • Use of FLIR infrared camera to inspect electrical equipment for potential issues
  • Other duties as assigned.

Education:

  • High School Diploma or GED equivalent required
  • Vibration Level II certification, with preference for additional specific (PdM, thermal imaging, ultrasonic inspection) technical degree/certifications
  • Associates Degree in mechanics, electrical or engineering technology preferred.

Background:

  • Five (5) years minimum in manufacturing maintenance and repairs; one to three years of specific predictive maintenance experience is preferred
  • High emphasis on manufacturing operations and multi-skills experience in industrial maintenance is required
  • Hands-on experience and working knowledge of manufacturing equipment maintenance is required
  • Must be able to perform root cause analysis, work closely with other departments, lead cross functional teams, have working knowledge of computers and be proficient in machine operations
  • Must have the ability to excel in a team environment and must possess demonstrated leadership qualities
  • Familiarity with Maximo and RBMWare is preferred

Accountability/Scope/Budget:

The Predictive Maintenance Technician is responsible for developing, enhancing, maintaining and providing the services of the plant's predictive maintenance program (PdM program) under the direction of the Reliability Engineer. This position could have an impact on maintenance budget expenditures if predictive maintenance data is not interpreted correctly and timely. In addition, this position could have impact on line performance due to non-proactive analysis and corrective actions. This position also has the capacity to forecast future maintenance budget requirements and projects. The Predictive Maintenance Technician reports directly to the Reliability Engineer.
