JOB DESCRIPTION:

Primary Function:

The Controller is responsible for the financial Controllership of Abbott Molecular (AM), a rapidly growing and dynamic, global Abbott division.

The AM Controller provides business and financial support, counsel and direction to the AM senior staff (the President, Selling and Marketing, R&D, Business Development, Manufacturing, Distribution, Quality/Regulatory/Clinical Affairs, and staff functions), their direct reports, and other staff in support of OEM/Alliance operations, AM's Headquarters' operations in Des Plaines; and AM commercial operations in US, Canada, Latin America, Europe and Asia/Pacific.

The position is responsible for a broad range of activities for AM worldwide which are executed to enable Abbott Molecular to fulfill its vision and strategies to 1) establish Abbott Molecular as a leader in Infectious Disease; 2) grow the business (and the entire molecular market segment) by introducing new technologies through development, acquisition and licensing; 3) vertically integrate; 4) expanded leadership in oncology; 5) drive growth and share in pre/post-natal testing; 6) build the number one position in high resolution transplant testing; and 7) opportunistically pursue new ways to grow our business.

Major Responsibilities:

Responsible for implementing and maintaining the effectiveness of the quality system. This position is responsible for a comprehensive set of controllership activities for worldwide operations including financial control, general accounting, financial planning, financial reporting, financial analysis, manufacturing accounting, inventory control, and fixed asset accounting for AM worldwide. More specifically, this position must:

  • Establish and maintain internal processes, procedures and controls which ensure the integrity of financial assets and accuracy of financial statements and forecasts; avoid errors and surprises; and comply with Division/Corporate policies and procedures and GAAP. Includes compliance with US Customs Regulations, OEC operating procedures and the Abbott Code of Business Conduct. operate as key leader and member of AM OEC Steering Committee and Compliance Committee to ensure adherence to Divisional and Corporate Operating Procedures.
  • Provide leadership in short (LBEs, Plans, Updates . . .) and long-range planning (LRP, PMP for R&D), execution of strategic initiatives, and, as a key member of the leadership team, in management of the overall AM business. This includes the establishment of financial as well as business goals, strategies, priorities and tactics, and identifying overall resource requirements with consistency of alignment across all AM sites worldwide and functions, and compatibility with the broader MPG strategies. Also, measurement of financial performance against the established goals and benchmarks. Performance measurement and analysis includes identifying and understanding the impact of foreign exchange, transfer pricing, and inter-company margin accounting.
  • Work closely with our alliance and OEM partners to share and analyze key financial data (weekly, monthly, quarterly, annually), provide ongoing guidance and decision support to senior management of AM and our partners, and process frequently multimillion dollar payments related to income and investment sharing. Also, coordinate fiscal year Federal Tax preparation with Corporate Tax. Address strategic and tactical topics with our alliance and OEM partners.
  • Control of ERP system financial applications and transaction processing functions (including general ledger, accounts payable, disbursements, invoicing, and accounts receivable) for Abbott Molecular, Inc., our US Entity, to ensure the timeliness, accuracy, and integrity of all financial-related information.
