JOB DESCRIPTION:

Responsible for procuring goods and services from suppliers for Abbott considering price; quality; and service relative to the end user's needs and company policies.

Main Responsibilities:

  • Responsible for implementing and maintaining the effectiveness of the quality system.
  • Ensure strict supplier compliance with Abbott product quality and workmanship standards and design changes.
  • Confer with personnel; users; and vendors to discuss defective or unacceptable goods or services and determine corrective action.
  • Maintain a working knowledge of the forces of supply and demand which regulate price and availability of materials in the marketplace.
  • Formulate and analyze bid proposals.
  • Negotiates or renegotiates and administers contracts with suppliers.
  • Evaluates and monitors contract performance to determine need for changes and to ensure compliance with contractual obligations.
  • Arbitrates claims and resolves complaints generated during performance of contract.
  • Understand suppliers’ cost structure; negotiates price and service arrangements which are fair relative to suppliers’ costs.

Minimum Qualifications:

  • High School diploma and 4 years relevant work experience,or Bachelor's Degree and 2 years' relevant work experience preferred.  
  • 2-4 years professional purchasing experience.

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Bachelor’s Degree or higher.
  • Procurement / Buyer work experience from medical diagnostics / medical device industry and large-scale manufacturers. (Will consider similar buyer experience from Defense and Aerospace industries -- or similar, highly-regulated industries/ manufacturers).
  • Oracle R12 experience (or similar).
  • Strong proficiency/experience with Excel (e.g. pivot tables, v-lookups) and PowerPoint (creating and giving presentations, up to and including Director- and VP-level audience).
